Helllloooo everyone from Florence!

We just got back from a very fun filled day here on our second day in Florence, which unfortunately, is also our last full day in Florence.

Our internet here is functioning though not the strongest and isn't allowing me to post pictures, so when we get to Rome tomorrow evening I'll be able to post a bunch of pictures from our time here for you to see. So be sure to check the blog again tomorrow night as I'll most likely update this after dinner Italian time tomorrow evening.

Today we started the morning by meeting our two guides, Elvio and Roberto at the entrance of the Accademia to see the famous David (these were also our guides yesterday on our walking tour). From the Accademia we carried on to the Uffizi Museum and enjoyed a tour and visited the new wing. I asked some of the students what the most exciting piece of art was in the Museum and it seems that the consensus was Botticelii's The Birth of Venus (click HERE to see a picture for anyone who may not be familiar with this painting. Though I think after seeing it, you will certainly recognize it from ads).

Following these two locations students enjoyed some free time before we met up around 2:15 to visit the leather market. Some jackets, purses, scarves and belts were definitely purchased today and a healthy boost of cash was injected into the Florentine economy once our group was finished shopping.

After the Shopping Bonanza we met in the hotel lobby at 6:30 and made our way to La Dantesca, one of Florence's best pizzerias. Students had 4 different types of pizza in the middle of the tables and each type was shared. Following the pizza dinner we had profiteroles for desert and a special surprise Nutella Pizza. The students were definitely sufficiently stuffed after tonight's dinner :-)

After dinner (and feeling very full) we made our way to Piazza Repubblica to take some group pictures and some students even enjoyed a ride on the iconic carousel that sits in the corner of the square.

Tomorrow we have an early rise as we travel to San Gimignano (click here to see an image of what this town looks like). As it's a bit of an early start we've encouraged the students to have a lighter than normal breakfast so that they may enjoy a cappuccino and a croissant in this beautiful town..... a coffee and freshly baked Italian goods overlooking the rolling hills of Tuscany with your closest friends anyone? Not a bad start to a Sunday!

From San Gimignano we travel to Rome with a stop in the San Callisto Catacombs which should be phenomenal.

So please check back again tomorrow, if the internet is working and the signal is strong I'll be able to post some pictures.

Sending everyone my kindest regards - we're all having a really great time here. Everyone is safe, happy and enjoying every minute.

Your enthusiastic GHT rep,
Natalie
